GeekTask is a to-do and habit app from Geek Tools, available on the web and as Windows and macOS apps. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain: we collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and we don't run advertising or third-party tracking.
The service is operated by Geek Tools (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].
- Account information. When you sign up with email, we store your email address and a securely hashed password (never the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile — your email address and account identifier — to create and identify your account.
- Your content. The tasks you create — titles, optional descriptions, schedules, repeat settings, reminders, completion history, and streaks — so they sync across your devices.
- Device & session information. A device identifier we generate, plus your browser/app type and operating system, the approximate location derived from your IP address (city/region level only), and a last-seen timestamp. This powers the “your devices” screen and lets you sign devices out remotely.
- Reminder subscriptions. If you enable background reminders, we store a web-push subscription so notifications can reach you when the app is closed.
- Technical logs. Our servers keep standard access logs (including IP address and request metadata) for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.
You can use GeekTask as a guest without creating an account; in that case your tasks are tied to an anonymous identifier on your device until you choose to sign up.
- To provide the core service — storing your tasks and syncing them across your devices.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure (including rate-limiting and abuse prevention).
- To deliver the reminders and notifications you ask for.
- To show your active devices and let you manage them.
- To diagnose problems and keep the app fast and reliable.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, to verify your identity (subject to Google's Privacy Policy).
- Cloudflare — DNS, network protection, and bot-abuse prevention (Turnstile) on our sign-up flow.
- Infrastructure — our own servers host the application and database; your data is not shared with data brokers or ad networks.
We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in (an authentication token) and to remember preferences such as your chosen language. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. On consent banners we default to the most privacy-preserving option.
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual tasks at any time inside the app. To delete your entire account and associated data, email [email protected] and we will remove it. Technical logs are retained for a limited period and then rotated out.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact [email protected]. Your data may be processed on servers outside your country; we apply the same protections described here wherever it is handled.
We protect your data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, least-privilege database access, and rate-limited authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to address issues promptly.
GeekTask is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the “last updated” date above, and significant changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
